Be a River Hero!
A focus of the Gunnison River Festival is to “Be A River Hero” which means being smart about the river, choosing river safety and etiquette, and practicing river stewardship. This helps keep everyone enjoying the river both today and tomorrow. For more information: check out American Whitewater website. https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Safety/videos
The Gunnison River Festival is held annually by the Nonprofit Gunnison River Festival and governed by a community board. The scope of the festival is the celebration of the headwaters of the Gunnison Watershed that flow into the Gunnison River. Many partners have participated creating an evolving environment and influencing the Festival.
PLEASE NOTE: The rapid 1/4 mile downstream of the Gunnison Whitewater Park is NOT a park feature. It is the Kemel Owens #2 Ditch diversion. When floating, especially in small personal watercraft (like a ducky or a tube), please use extreme caution or take out at the whitewater park.
